The ARK is Sailing Again!

On July 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., the ARK sailed to the home of Diane Harvey. ARK stands for Acts of Random Kindness and that is the theme of our informal Bible studies. The ARK has moved from home to home for the past five years. Sometimes the ARK is held at the church. We are always appreciative to have people volunteer to host the ARK. The person who does the hosting can choose the date, the time, the place (home or church), and the topic.

The topic on July 18th was “Fruit of the Spirit”, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control”. Galatians 5:22-23. After prayer, refreshments, and singing a few hymns, the discussion began. Diane Harvey facilitated the discussion and Rev. Bright helped us to understand how this fruit is pruned by God. Jesus is the vine that produces the fruit, we are the ones who bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. God is the vinedresser who prunes the vines, so that we may bear more good fruit.

In these days when our world is so fragmented and confused, just one person who exhibits this fruit of God’s Spirit can make a difference in the world.

Where will the ARK dock next? Please notify Wanda (Church Secretary) or Diane Harvey if you are interested in hosting an ARK. You will be glad you did!

Next ARK Gathering Friday July 18, 2014

By Diane Harvey

After a several month hiatus, the ARK is sailing again! To refresh your memory, "ARK" stands for "Acts of Random Kindness"-acts we all do everyday...

The ARK gatherings are usually held in the homes of those who wish to host these informal Bible-based discussions. We have had these monthly ARK Gatherings since 2008.

*The next ARK will be held at Diane Harvey's home on Friday July 18, 2014 at 7:00pm. The topic is "Fruit of the Spirit." Reservations are a must! All are welcome! Please see Diane for more information.

Pentecost was celebrated on Sunday June 8, which was the Day of Pentecost. The Sanctuary was filled with red balloons and the Holy Spirit was among us. The red balloons signify Pentecost as the birthday of the church.

The biblical narrative of Pentecost is given in Acts 2:1-21. Rev. Constance Bright preached a moving sermon based on the book of Acts. We could all feel empowerment from the Holy Spirit and a deeper intimacy with God.

After the Worship Service, we gathered for fellowship, cake, and welcomed two members into our church family Alison and David Pinsley.

Baptism of Lisa Christina and Gabriella Elisabeth Sheaffer

The Sacrament of Baptism was administered on November 25, 2012 to Lisa Christina (Christy) Sheaffer and her baby daughter, Gabriella Elisabeth Sheaffer.

Family members and friends, as well as our congregation, welcomed Christy and Gabriella to the community of faith and membership in the Church of Jesus Christ.

ARK Bible Study

By Dian Harvey

We made “A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord” when the ARK docked at Diane Harvey’s home on July 19, 2013. The topic was “Hymns”. Each person who attended brought the name of their favorite Hymn, and discussed why that Hymn was read and discussed. There was a “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” in the home, as we sang several of the hymns.

A special thank you is extended to Betty Curry, who was unable to attend-but she let us borrow her book on Hymns. This book gave a history behind the writing of the individual Hymns.

Everyone left with full tummies, a better understanding of the Word through Hymns, and a song in their hearts.
